mimicry

Mimicry is a multimedia exhibit in two parts.

Part One: Invitation

Part One: Invitation is comprised of 4 life-size digital collage pieces, each representing a separate emotion: Pleasure, Joy, Grief, and Anger.

Altered digital portraits are placed among a host of elements that add texture to their expression, serving as an invitation to receive them and consider the ways we have masked and manipulated our expression in presentation to others.

These 2D-monochromatic, digital collages also perform as contrast to the 3-D dreamlike experience of Reception/Embodiment (Part Two).

Part Two: Reception

Accompanying each lifesize collage is a vintage Viewmaster, loaded with a 3D/stereoscopic reel. This is the most intimate portion of the exhibit, with a series of cinematic portraits and prose of each Emotion.

Pleasure, Joy, Grief, and Anger speak to you, unmasking and showing themselves clearly, receiving you in full. These 4 surreal experiences provide moments to reflect and consider your relationship to embodiment and expression.

This interactive portion was captured on 35mm film and a stereoscopic camera creating a unique 3D effect when viewed with a Viewmaster.
